Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and the mixture is sweet, about 5‑7 minutes.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each puff pastry sheet and cut into 4 equal squares. Place a spoonful of the apple filling in the center of each square.
  3. Fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a tighter seal.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (180°C). Carefully lower the pies into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2‑3 minutes per side.
  5. Remove the pies with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain. Let them cool slightly before serving.

Tips

For extra crispness, pat the sealed pies dry before frying. If the oil isn’t hot enough, the pastry may become greasy rather than crispy.

About this recipe

These bite‑size pies bring the nostalgic flavor of a fast‑food dessert to your kitchen. The apples are cooked down with sweet spices until tender, then sealed in puff pastry for a buttery, flaky exterior. Serve them warm for the best contrast between the soft filling and the crisp crust.

Perfect for a snack, a dessert, or a fun addition to a brunch spread, they pair well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce if desired.
