Easy No-Knead Dinner Rolls
These easy no-knead dinner rolls are a comforting and simple addition to any meal. The method requires minimal effort, relying on a long rest instead of physical kneading to develop the dough. The result is soft, elastic rolls that are perfect for breaking apart and enjoying fresh from the oven.
Instructions
-
Activate the yeast
Stir the sugar and yeast into the warm milk until dissolved. Let the mixture stand for 5 to 6 minutes to allow the yeast to activate. -
Combine the dough
In a large bowl, mix the dissolved yeast mixture with the flour, salt, egg, and softened butter. Stir until the dough is soft, slightly sticky, and elastic, and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. -
First rise
Transfer the dough to a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours, or until doubled in size. -
Shape and second proof
Sprinkle flour on a work surface, turn out the dough, and cut it into 6 pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place them on a greased pan. Cover and let rise at room temperature for 40 to 45 minutes. -
Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 20 to 22 minutes, or until lightly browned. -
Finish and serve
Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with melted butter. Serve while warm.
Tips
Brushing the rolls with melted butter immediately after baking helps keep them moist and adds richness.

About this recipe
This recipe yields six soft dinner rolls made with just a few pantry staples. The dough is mixed until smooth and elastic, then allowed to rise twice for maximum fluffiness. The rolls are baked until lightly browned and finished with a brush of melted butter to enhance their flavor and texture.
Serve these rolls warm alongside your favorite dinner entrée. They are versatile enough to accompany soups, stews, or meat dishes. Leftovers can likely be enjoyed later, as the texture remains soft, though fresh-baked rolls are the treat.
