Soft Fluffy Dinner Rolls Recipe
These soft and fluffy dinner rolls are perfect for family dinners or holiday meals. Made with bread flour for a tender crumb and brushed with butter, they are ideal for any cozy night in.
Instructions
-
Prepare Wet Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the milk and sugar. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved. Add the instant yeast directly into the mixture and mix thoroughly. Stir in the honey and crack in the egg. Whisk everything together until smooth. -
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, combine the bread flour and salt. Mix well to ensure the salt is evenly distributed. -
Combine and Knead Initial Phase
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry flour mixture. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix until a rough dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add a small amount of milk or water. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2 to 3 minutes. -
Knead with Butter
Gradually add the softened butter in chunks. Continue kneading for another 12 to 15 minutes until the dough becomes smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky. Perform the window pane test by stretching a small piece of dough; it should form a thin, translucent sheet without tearing. -
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size. -
Shape the Rolls
Punch down the dough gently to release air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball by tucking the edges underneath. Place the rolls close together on a lined baking tray. -
Second Rise
Cover the rolls with a towel or plastic wrap and let them rise for 30 to 45 minutes, or until puffy. Brush the tops lightly with milk or egg wash for a shiny finish. -
Bake
Preheat the oven to 340°F (170°C). Bake the rolls for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. -
Finish
Transfer the rolls to a wire rack to cool slightly. While still warm, brush the tops with melted butter.
Tips
Using high-protein bread flour helps create the right structure and chew. If using all-purpose flour, reduce the liquid slightly as it absorbs less moisture. Brushing with butter immediately after baking helps keep the rolls soft.

About this recipe
These dinner rolls feature a soft, fluffy texture achieved through the use of high-protein bread flour. The dough includes milk, honey, and egg to enhance sweetness and moisture, resulting in a tender crumb.
Served warm, the rolls have a golden sheen from a milk or egg wash. They are best enjoyed slightly warm after being brushed with melted butter, which adds flavor and keeps them soft.
