Classic Thanksgiving Stuffing (Dressing)
This classic Thanksgiving stuffing, also called dressing, is a warm, savory side perfect for holiday meals. It combines toasted bread cubes with aromatic vegetables, herbs, broth, and a touch of egg for a tender, cohesive bite.
Instructions
-
Sauté vegetables
Melt the butter in a skillet, add the diced onions and celery, and season lightly with salt and black pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 3–5 minutes until softened. Remove from heat and set aside. -
Combine stuffing mixture
In a large mixing bowl, place the dried bread cubes. Add the cooled onion‑celery‑butter mixture, fresh parsley, fresh sage, thyme, and poultry seasoning. Stir to distribute evenly. Gradually pour in the broth, stirring until the cubes absorb the liquid and are fully coated. Fold in the beaten egg and give one final stir. -
Bake
Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish, spreading it into an even layer. Bake in a preheated 375 °F oven for about 30 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown.

About this recipe
The stuffing features cubed bread that’s first dried in a low oven, then moistened with a seasoned broth mixture. Butter‑sautéed onions and celery add flavor, while fresh parsley, sage, thyme, and poultry seasoning bring herbaceous notes. A beaten egg helps bind the ingredients together, and the dish finishes with a golden crust after baking.
Serve the stuffing alongside roast turkey or as part of a holiday buffet. It pairs well with gravy and can be made ahead, then reheated before serving.
