Instructions
-
Prepare Cake Pans
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease three 8‑inch round cake pans and set aside. -
Make Chocolate Cake Batter
In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Mix until blended. Add the eggs and mix. While running, slowly pour in buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Finally, stream in hot water while mixing. Fold in the quartered Oreos gently, then divide the batter evenly between two prepared pans. -
Bake Chocolate Layers
Bake each chocolate pan for 40‑45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a rack, then remove from pans and let cool completely. -
Make Vanilla Cake Batter
Using the same mixer, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter cubes one at a time, mixing until the mixture resembles sand. Incorporate the eggs, then slowly add milk and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth. Pour into the third prepared pan. -
Bake Vanilla Layer
Bake for 40‑45 minutes, testing with a toothpick. Cool on a rack, remove from pan, and allow to cool completely. -
Prepare Filling
Whisk heavy cream in a clean bowl with the whisk attachment until stiff peaks form; refrigerate. In another bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth, then add icing sugar and vanilla. Fold the whipped cream into the cheese mixture until fully combined. Keep the filling chilled. -
Assemble the Cake
Level each cake layer if needed. Place one chocolate layer on a cake board and spread about ½ cup of filling evenly. Add a vanilla layer on top and spread another ½ cup of filling. Top with the second chocolate layer and coat the entire cake with a thin “crumb coat” of filling. Refrigerate 20‑30 minutes to set. -
Final Frosting and Decoration
Apply a second generous layer of filling over the chilled cake. Transfer the remaining filling to a piping bag fitted with a large open star tip. Prepare chocolate ganache and drizzle it around the cake edges. Press crumbled Oreos into the center, pipe star borders, and place a halved Oreo on every second star. -
Serve
Slice the cake, serve chilled, and enjoy the layered Oreo goodness.
Tips
For clean layers, chill the cake after the crumb coat before applying the final frosting. Use an offset spatula for smooth frosting application.
