Instructions
-
Preheat Oven
Preheat the oven to 425 °F and line a cookie sheet with nonstick parchment paper. -
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. -
Incorporate Butter
Grate the very cold butter or cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. -
Add Milk
Stir in the milk with a wooden spoon or spatula just until the dough comes together; avoid over‑mixing. -
Fold the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gently work it into a cohesive ball, then fold it in half, flatten, rotate 90°, and repeat 5–6 times without overworking. -
Shape Biscuits
Pat the dough to about 1 inch thick. Lightly flour a 2 ¾‑inch round cutter, press straight down to cut biscuits, and place them on the sheet less than ½ inch apart. Gather scraps to cut additional biscuits, aiming for at least six. -
Bake
Bake for 12 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden. Optionally brush with melted salted butter while hot and serve warm.

About this recipe
The biscuits are lightly browned on top and have a tender crumb inside, making them ideal for butter, jam, or a hearty gravy. Serve them warm straight from the oven, optionally brushed with melted salted butter for extra richness. They pair well with eggs, bacon, or a simple soup for a comforting meal.
