Easy Apple Pie with Oat Crumble

This apple pie combines thinly sliced Honey Crisp apples with a sweet butter‑flour coating and a crunchy oat‑brown‑sugar topping. The result is a comforting, golden‑browned dessert that’s ready in about an hour of baking.

EasyDifficulty

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling

Preheat the oven to 375°F. In a bowl whisk lemon juice, flour, vanilla, melted butter, cinnamon, salt and, if using, Grand Marnier. Toss the sliced apples in the mixture until evenly coated, then set aside.
  2. Make the Oat Crumble Topping

In a separate bowl combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon‑sugar and a pinch of salt. Add the cold cubed butter and blend with fingertips or a pastry cutter until the butter is incorporated and the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Assemble and Bake

Place a store‑bought pie shell on a baking sheet. Fill it with the coated apples, spreading evenly. Sprinkle the oat crumble topping over the apples. Bake for 45–60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Let the pie cool 2–4 hours (or overnight) before slicing.

Tips

If you prefer a smoother filling, sprinkle a little extra flour over the apples before mixing. For added flavor, drizzle a little extra Grand Marnier over the top just before serving.

About this recipe

The filling is a simple blend of apples, lemon juice, flour, vanilla, melted butter, cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and optional Grand Marnier for a bright note. After the apples are tossed in the mixture, they sit in a store‑bought pie crust while the topping is prepared. The topping mixes flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon‑sugar, salt, and cold butter into a crumbly streusel that crisps up during baking. Serve the pie warm or at room temperature, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
