Moist Chocolate Banana Bread
This chocolate banana bread is a rich and moist oven-baked loaf made with overripe bananas, white and brown sugars, and chocolate chips. The recipe uses vegetable oil instead of butter to keep the crumb tender. It is a straightforward baked good that can be enjoyed as a snack or dessert, with optional nuts and cinnamon for added flavor.
Instructions
-
Preheat and Prep
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Mash the bananas in a bowl. -
Combine Wet Ingredients
Mix the white sugar and brown sugar into the mashed bananas. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, evaporated milk, oil, and vanilla together. -
Mix Batters
Combine the beaten egg mixture into the banana mixture. In another bowl, sift the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon together. -
Combine and Fold
Mix the wet and dry ingredients together using a cut-and-fold method. Carefully fold in the chocolate chips. Avoid over-mixing the batter. -
Bake
Transfer the batter to a baking pan. Bake for 50 to 70 minutes. -
Test and Cool
Start checking the loaf after 50 minutes by inserting a toothpick into three places, especially the center. If moist crumbs cling to the toothpick, remove the loaf immediately. Let it cool for 15 minutes before cutting and serving.
Tips
Use the toothpick test in the center of the loaf to determine doneness; remove immediately if moist crumbs are present to prevent drying out.

About this recipe
This recipe combines mashed overripe bananas with a mix of white and brown sugars, eggs, evaporated milk, and oil to create a moist batter. The addition of chocolate chips gives the bread a sweet, indulgent character, while the use of oil ensures the loaf stays tender and shelf-stable. It is a simple bake that does not require special equipment beyond a standard baking pan and oven.
Serve the bread slightly warmed for a softer texture, or let it cool completely to the room temperature before slicing. The recipe allows for customization by adding nuts for crunch and cinnamon for spice. It is best enjoyed as a homemade treat or breakfast item, pairing well with coffee or coffee-free mornings.
