Classic Buttercream Frosting
This smooth, sweet buttercream frosting is perfect for cupcakes, cakes, or any baked treat that needs a creamy finish. Made with just butter, powdered sugar, and a splash of milk, it whips up light and airy in minutes.
Instructions
-
Place the softened butter in a bowl and beat with a stand mixer for about 5 minutes, until it becomes light, airy, and roughly doubles in size.
Add the icing sugar gradually, about a half‑cup at a time, beating for roughly a minute after each addition.
Add the milk a teaspoon at a time, mixing until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency. If desired, incorporate any flavor extracts or food coloring at this stage.
Use the buttercream immediately to frost cupcakes, or store it in the refrigerator for up to a few weeks. Before using chilled frosting, let it return to room temperature and give it a quick stir.
